RAR Holding

Since its creation in 1981, the holding company RAR - Sociedade de Controle (Holding), S.A., has controlled, directly or indirectly, the totality of the Group’s shareholdings.

RAR Holding takes a challenging attitude towards the companies it manages defining the Group’s strategies and generic guidelines. It manages the businesses portfolio and capital allocation and assures certain specialised supporting services. In addition to the co-ordination of these central activities and the definition of the Group governance rules, it also takes care of the Group’s relationship within the community.

In the area of social responsibility, RAR supports social and civic causes through sponsorship and donations to numerous institutions, particularly those committed to culture, education, research and innovation.

RAR was a founding member of the “Serralves Foundation” and the “Casa da Música Foundation”. RAR has also been involved in the creation of several leading organizations such as “COTEC Portugal - Business Association for Innovation”, “Portugal Foods” and projects as “Porto de Futuro”, “Junior Achievement” and “No Poupar está o Ganho”. RAR participated in the establishment and development of the “Porto School of Biotechnology” and “Porto Business School” and, through its subsidiaries, co-operates with the “University of Southampton”, the “FEUP” (University of Porto Engineering College), the “IBET” (Biotechnology Research) and “ISVOUGA - Instituto Superior de Entre o Douro e Vouga”.
